1. The Perfect Fit
Make sure you put your kid in a costume that fits properly. This will help your child to avoid tripping and injuring themselves.
2. Be Highly Visible
If your kid’s in a darker costume that will definitely make it difficult for people to see them while they’re walking around. Pick up some reflective stickers or accessories for your kid to where so people can see them!
3. Stay In Groups
Your child should be in a group with other people and have an agreed route that their kids will be on. If your child has a phone, make them contact you on a regular basis while they are out and assign them a curfew to be home by.
4. Don’t Go Inside a Strangers Home
Advise your children to never enter a stranger’s home.
5. Show Them The Rules of The Road
One night before Halloween take your kid(s) for a walk and show them how to properly and safely cross the street. Test them and make sure they know how to do it properly.
6. Inspect Their Candy
When your kids come home dump the bag of candy out on the floor and search it for any open packages or suspicious looking treats. Discard of anything suspicious immediately.
7. Be Aware of Allergens
If your kid has serious allergies make sure you are thoroughly inspecting their bag of candy before they dive in.
8. Stay With the Little Ones
If your child is under the age of 12 they should be accompanied by an adult unless you feel they are mature enough.
9. Always Walk On Sidewalks or Paths
Make sure your kid knows they should only stick to sidewalks and paths so they are not running around on the road.
10. Stick to What you Know
Tell your kids not to wander into any parts of town that they have never been so they keep safer in a more well-known area.
