There is also the heightened risk of a fire depending on the contractor’s diligence with cleaning the work site as flammable debris such as cardboard and sawdust are often left around the work site.

Consider these 6 tips when you are thinking about building that dream home: 

1. Temporary Fencing
You can rent temporary fencing to have put up around the property during construction to help keep those pesky criminals out of your things while everything is exposed. You should make sure the contractor is locking the fence every day when work is done.

2. Fire Protection
You should be keeping at least 1 fire extinguisher per every 2,000 square feet. Once the walls are up and the house is no longer open to the outside, consider putting in a temporary fire alarm system with heat sensors every 1,000 feet.

3. No Garbage Tolerance
Tell the contractor that there is no tolerance for leaving garbage lying around the work site and housing area as this will increase the risk of fire.

4. Temporary Lighting
Consider renting out motion sensor lights, as keeping the area illuminated will discourage intruders from approaching the property.
