A lot of people want to lose weight and find it difficult trying because they are often tired after work and can’t find the time to exercise throughout their busy lives. We have prepared 7 tips for making you walk more during your daily routine:
1.Walk or Bike to Work (No Brainer)
We know this is an obvious one, but it would probably be the most effective on the list. We only suggest doing this if it is within a safe distance as you don’t want to be late for work and obviously avoid walking if it is a dangerous neighborhood because you are trying to lose weight (not get mugged).
2.Park further away from the door
We understand that walking to work or the store is not always possible, but you can always park further away from the door so you have to walk more. By doing this you will discover that you will walk an extra 5 – 15 minutes per day depending on how many places you visit.
3.Pace around for no reason (not around your workplace)
If you are sitting there for a long period of time doing nothing like watching television, consider getting up and walking around your living room and house to get a few extra minutes of exercise into your daily routine.
4.Use Public Transportation
I know that this seems to entail not walking, but it will indeed increase the amount you walk. For example, when you take the bus you have to walk to the bus stop and after you get off the bus you will have to walk a greater distance than if you were to park your vehicle right outside your workplace. Think about how far away your local bus stop is and you will see how much this increases the distance you walk during the day.
5.Take a longer route
They say “the straightest line is the fastest way”. This helps if you are trying to get somewhere quickly, but if you are trying to burn some extra calories consider taking longer routes when you walk around your office, house or if you’re simply just walking somewhere. Take the longer, more scenic route and you will again have gained a few extra minutes towards your goal for exercise.
6.Go for a walk on your break
This one may sound like a hassle, but if you are sitting around the workplace it wouldn’t hurt to go for a walk outside or if it isn’t nice out go for a walk in a local mall or store. You will find this quite enjoyable and it will relieve some stress from your workplace as they say “out of sight of mind.”
7.Now Stay Committed
This one really isn’t a tip, but if you consider that commitment is what you need to get to your weight loss goal, it is important to keep up with this new routine until it becomes a habit. When it becomes a habit you will be doing these things without thinking about it, which in turn is what you want to accomplish!
Using these strategies will make it easier for you, start walking more!
