Vehicles are classified as emergency vehicles when they fall under the following categories/uses:
- Ambulance
- Police Duty
- Firefighting, including any fire pumping unit operating under a municipality
Responsibilities of Other Drivers
You must always give the right of way to emergency vehicles in town or on the highway. The maximum speed when passing an emergency vehicle or tow truck on the highway is 60 KM/HR, unless they are on the other side of a divided highway. You should always be using your own discretion as to how fast you should be driving and may possibly have to go slower than the maximum speed depending on the weather conditions.
