The temperatures have been dropping over night and when frost is in the forecast, it is better to be prepared than to be caught off guard! Go through the below list to make sure you have everything in order for your garden before it arrives.
Annuals
Do the proper research to make sure that your annuals are resistant to frost. If you have plants that can’t fight frost make sure to cover them. Watch this video to see how to cover plants properly from frost.
Hoses and Watering Apparatuses (Most Important)
Be sure to drain and wrap up all of your hoses and store them in a freeze save spot in your garage, shed or home. Hoses that aren’t insulated properly can easily freeze and crack when the first frost comes in.
If you have an automatic irrigation system in your garden be sure to drain the system from its lowest point to release all of the water and air pressure in the lines.
Potted Plants
Take these plants indoors or if you want to keep them outside a bit longer be sure to properly insulate the pots to withstand the frost. You can take simple plastic wraps or store bought solutions to achieve this. You can also just cover the plant at night when the temperature drops to insulate it.
There are lots of things to be looking for when preparing your garden for the first frost, but these are the most basic and major. Hopefully this small list helps you remember and makes it easier!
